The column critiques ballot treatment and governor image, notes Hampton’s Col. L. B. Flenniken Bill About Nominations Sparks Local Debate
The Flenniken primary bill is criticized for plurality nominations and possible minority wins like the defeated Crossley bill. Governor and Republicans urged loyal support for Putnam the long-serving assessor candidate and other solid ticket members, arguing party strife should not cloud municipal elections.
Political Extremes Endanger Public Welfare
The writer warns that voters swing from one extreme to another, favoring radical municipal ownership one year and reverting to conservatism the next. He cites Bryanism, Hearst, socialists, and demagogues, arguing reforms like railroad rate, insurance, and trust regulation are acceptable, but excesses threaten the public good. The legislature did little of note last week.
