Students Edit Monticello Express Next Week
Ten journalism students from the University of Iowa will edit The Monticello Express for the March 28 issue. The group includes six juniors, three seniors, and one graduate student, led by editor C A Coxsee with the regular shop staff. The issue will be 24 pages with numerous feature articles on local and county topics and extra copies printed to support increased advertising coverage.

Mrs McQuillen, Cascade resident, dies in Richland
Margaret McQuillen a Cascade community figure died at her son Charles’s home in Richland township Jones county after months of illness. Born Margaret Winters in Drogheda Ireland February 2 1858 she came to America at seventeen with her parents. She married Richard McQuillen March 31 1891 at St Raphael's Cathedral Dubuque and had three sons Frank John Charles. Funeral Mass will be offered at St Martin's church Thursday at 9 o'clock with burial in St Martin's Cemetery.

The Iowa State commission suspended granting new old age pensions awaiting legislative action on revenue bills. Jones County submitted 263 applications with 71 approved and four rejected out of 70 available per 8,500 pensions. The 1934 tax raised $1,035,219 statewide. Jones County paid 75.69 percent, with county totals at $8,888.

In Davenport last Friday night Monticello A junior high cagers lost 23 22 to Washington High Cedar Rapids in a class A district semifinal. Monticello led 22 21 late when Nicholas of Washington scored the winning basket. Fraser Matthiessen and Nicholas led scorers with 11 and 7 points respectively. This marked the final Red and Black appearance for several seniors.

The Lovell Laboring Lassies 4-H Club met at the public library on Saturday March 9. President Dorothy Barlow led the meeting as secretary Kathleen Eilers read the minutes. Talks were given by Mrs. Balsiger on the last training school Leona Sanford on care of underclothing and baths and Luella Balsiger on materials. Dorothy Barlow demonstrated how to use patterns on material. Music by John Ingels preceded adjournment.

Death of Harry Lawrence in Monticello at 0:15
Harry Lawrence aged 25 died yesterday morning at a local hospital in Monticello after months of cancer linked to a leg bruise. Born November 29, 1909 in Boone/ Linn County, he married Levon Pousek in Anamosa on March 28, 1931. Survived by widow, parents, four brothers, and two young daughters. Funeral plans likely for March 22 at St Joseph’s Catholic Church Prairieburg with burial at St Joseph’s Cemetery.
