Auction Bridge Strategy: Deciding Six-Card Contracts
Wynne Ferguson notes tough bridge situations where opponents have bid four or five of their suits and partner doubles. The article analyzes whether to advance with a suit or defeat the contract, using a close hand with spades and diamonds to illustrate choosing certainty over risk. It discusses business doubles and how high cards and suit distribution influence the right call.
Questionable one heart bid leads to game chances
In a bridge rubber game the dealer Z opens one heart and faces a sequence where his risky bid steers toward a failed game. After A bids no trump and Y doubles hearts, three clubs is suggested if B passes. The analysis notes Z’s poor original bid and argues that passing or aiming for no trump would yield better outcomes for the Z–A pair, with Y–Z potentially making three odd.
