Walter Reuther argues a four day work week would not boost output or wages and could reduce living standards. He highlights Census data on multiple jobholding and working wives, noting more leisure may not equate to progress and hard work remains more beneficial.
The Sunshine club closed its meeting for fall after a dinner at the Swiss Valley chalet near Dubuque and a theater visit. Many local families hosted or visited over the weekend including Chicago guests Rimicci and relatives of Riedel, with multiple birthday dinners and a Monticello wedding. Arthur Rickels was hospitalized with pneumonia. Marilyn Donovan visited Cedar Rapids for Memorial Day.
Scotch Grove Women’s Community club meets June 19 at the home of Mrs. Ronald Paulsen. A guest speaker will discuss flower arrangements and attendees will judge and prize bouquets brought in favorite vases. Mrs. Arnold Jacobs leads the program with Mrs. Jack Naylor coordinating recreation. Roll call asks for a favorite flower.
Garden club members must reserve for a Mt. Vernon rose garden tour by Friday June 21. Contact Mrs. George A. Rickels Mrs. Emma Zimmerman or Mrs. Bill First. The group meets at the public school at 9 30 am Tuesday June 25.
