Rev. J. B. Lewis pastor of the Brighton Methodist Church and Miss Zoe Swain aged 18 were arrested in Rock Island at the Harper hotel. They registered as man and wife and were surprised in their room. Lewis admitted guilt and paid a $50 fine. Swain was not prosecuted.

Floyd Billman ten year old son of H E Billman a farmer near Marietta found a basket of rubbish in the garret and set off dynamite caps. His left hand was torn to pieces and doctors used anti strep to prevent tetanus while fearing possible loss of the limb.

The Dubuque county farmer and former New Mallory monastery resident Thomas O Connors left a 25000 estate. Of that sum 9500 goes to local Catholic bodies—4000 to the House of the Good Shepherd 3000 to the Nuns of the Presentation and 1000 each to Mercy Hospital and St Joseph's College. The remainder consists of small bequests.
While Jens Thompson worked in a field five miles southwest of Graettinger he found a man's skeleton in a secluded slough. The remains appeared to have lain there two or more years with only bones hair and scraps of clothing surviving. No missing person case has been reported locally.

Iowa Supreme Court affirms death sentence for John Junkin in the 1909 murder of Clara Rosen in Ottumwa. Judge Roberts imposed the sentence after a trial in Appanoose County. Junkin's attorneys argued he was a moral degenerate, but the high court found him fit to distinguish right from wrong.
