She was born January 20 1882 in Strathmore Scotland and emigrated in 1855. Survivors include ten children and six sons as pallbearers. The two week food preservation campaign organized by the Jones County Farm Improvement association drew large crowds in Ames despite rain with twelve hundred attendees. Miss Maisie Stephenson demonstrated canning methods including the cold pack, sharing tips on jars rubbers and government bulletins to help families preserve food. Four Olin youths, Guy Macomber Forest Gilmore Wm Hillman and Harry Houstman, joined the Machine Gun Co. after answering the country call and will await medical exam results and Des Moines processing.
