SAND SPRING Mr. and Mrs. Fred Heeren and family and Gus Kanas spent Memorial Day in the Sandhagen homes at Dundee. Many relatives and friends visited across multiple towns including Richland, Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, Monticello, Cascade, and Colesburg as guests at various homes.
Miss Eloise Balcar visited Richland Center for graduation week events with Cedar Rapids roots. Sylvia Cooper closed her school with a post ceremony picnic by the river. Cedar Rapids guest Luella Balsiger spent the weekend with her parents. Memorial Day gatherings included Will Balsiger and others at Spillville clock works and a city park picnic. Wisconsin visitors Mr and Mrs George Schweitzer joined John Schweitzer at his home. A large Memorial Day group from Monticello Oelwein Marion and Olin attended the park dinner. Mrs Margaret Reichart, an elder resident, fractured a hip and is treated at John McDonald hospital after staying with Mrs Forrest Ely.

University department heads report more job openings for seniors than since 1931. Agriculture industry and business seek graduates this year as economic mood improves. Starting wages rise from 100 to 125 dollars for top positions and 100 for average, with some past low paying roles offering up to 85 dollars. This marks a foothold for youth amid economic strain.
A nurse in training at South Shore hospital underwent appendicitis surgery there on Saturday. In Bernard township the polls showed 154 voters with 97 Democrats and 57 Republicans casting ballots. He cites improved perspective and practical views on det and survival as constructive outcomes of economic downturn.

Local clergy visits and school closures mark a page of community updates, including health notes and rural chorus planning.
