Ancient Viking Vessel Revealed in Norwegian Tumulus
Excavation at Gogstad near Sandefjord uncovers a complete seventy four foot long Viking warship buried with twenty oars and circular shields along its sides. The find, dating a thousand years back, exceeds earlier Norsecraft discoveries in size and detail. It includes carved dragon heads on remains of shields and oar blades, with pigments preserved on wood. The site shows the ship placed stem toward the sea, atop fascines and clay within a turf tumulus long spoken of in local legend. The dig was conducted by Nicolaysen under the Society for the Preservation of Ancient Monuments after initial work by local villagers.

Women Rule in Bolunda Society, Africa Cites Matriarchal Law
The Bolunda in Africa reportedly uphold female supremacy with women presiding in councils and dictating terms of marriage. A husband relocates to his wife’s village and must support his mother, while wives hold divorce power and children become maternal property. Men need female permission for contracts, a system cited as a model for women’s rights elsewhere. Delegates from Kolanda could share practical insight from this matriarchal order.
