Corn Borers Threaten Iowa Corn Crops
Extension entomologist Harold Gunderson of Iowa State College warns that European corn borers may severely damage this year’s crop, doubting early forecasts until losses are counted. He cites a Maquoketa field with 100 percent infestation and 15 borers per stalk, potentially 75 to 90 percent yield loss. Second generation borers are expected to accelerate damage, affecting late planted corn. Agnes Cashen of Milwaukee visits her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Neal Cashen.
