Thirty Men Employed In The County Quarry
Thirty men are employed daily at the county quarry on the Hutton farm northeast of Onslow. The rock is extracted with picks and a pneumatic drill and crushed for road surfacing. Nine miles of county trunk road M from Onslow to the Jackson county line are being resurfaced. Rock from this quarry will be used on roads in Clay and Washington townships. The Reconstruction Finance Corp has allowed Jones counts $2,000 for reef projects in July, an increase of $900 from June, easing county tax strain.

Lutherans convene at Schleswig for state meeting
Paul T. Schuetz of Monticello serves as secretary treasurer of the local Lutheran Aid Association branch. The association plans its annual state convention at the Thamanuel Lutheran church in Schleswig on Sunday July 23. Weather permitting a tour to Abraham Lincoln's farm, and a banquet at 7 p.m. at the Schleswig opera house with speeches and music. About 500 delegates and visitors are expected.
