California hosts seven big tree groves protected as reserves from Santa Cruz to Sequoia and Grant parks. Santa Cruz’s Big Basin is 16 miles from town with easy access, while Calaveras Tuolumne Mariposa Gen. Grant and Sequoia parks lie farther afield by stage. The Santa Cruz grove hosts the Cathedral and Giant trees among 60 giants over 300 feet tall. a fallen giant yielded 70,000 shin gle shingles and 150 railway ties worth about 827 dollars, with no immediate plans to cut more giants.

He performed a skating act at Mrs Cornelys masked ball in Carlisle House but struck a mirror worth 2500 dollars and broke his fiddle, injuring himself. The accident paused wheel skate excitement for decades.
