Engineer Kimball's Report on City Water Supply Improvements

Civil engineer William H. Kimball reports a preliminary plan to upgrade the city water system. A steel standpipe of about 80 feet could provide 200000 gallons and 80 psi at hilltop, with increased mains pressure but possible house service issues. alternative reinforced concrete reservoir elevation could yield 577000 gallons and lower cost. He notes 30 year standpipe life and cites Attleboro as a model, estimating total costs below the standpipe option and urging concrete tank upgrades as preferable. He cautions slight top leakage, potential pressure gains, and recommends stronger house service piping for optimum results. The document also discusses reservoir height increases, pressure changes, and the practical impacts on Lovell’s residence and First and Cedar streets. Public notices for windmill agency and a separate July 20 1909 auction in Langworthy conclude the record.
