Capt. Dreyfus landed at Quiberon and transported to Rennes by train and carriage amid a large orderly crowd. Police accompanied him. ten gendarmes rode in a wagon with guards on foot. Paris reports indicate he may face trial mid to late July as medical concerns influence proceedings.
Charles M Murphy of Kings County wheelmen rode a two mile board track on a siding of the Long Island railroad paced by a locomotive. He completed the mile in 57 4 5 seconds on a 28 inch wheel with 120 6% crank hangers and weighed 2014 pounds. Two strong men on the train saved him from a possible fatal fall during the sprint.
Rioting in Brussels continued until two a.m. at several points. Gendarmes charged on the Boulevard Auspach and fired ball cartridges on the Grande place. One rioter was bayoneted and two reporters were seriously injured as saucepans and domestic items were thrown from windows at the troops.

Washington July 1 Emma D E N Southworth the noted authoress died at her residence in the city at 8 30 o clock Friday night after several weeks illness. She was nearly eighty and had suffered from heat and age. Her son Dr Southworth attended her. She had long lived in a picturesque West Washington mansion overlooking the Potomac and the Virginia hills.
A Dawson dispatch to the Times says a German burglar who stole 3000 in gold dust from a miner’s cabin near Cape Nome was arrested by miners and hanged by a local committee after his confession. The event reportedly occurred near Cape Nome.

Judge Scott sitting for Judge Wade in Iowa City's district court granted an injunction preventing the city from sending a smallpox patient to a pest house in West Lucas Township. It is the first such case in Iowa and among few in the nation. The city will appeal to the supreme court. title to the pest house property lies with Iowa City.
A tornado swept Brooklyn causing sidewalks to be ripped and hurled, trees up to a foot in diameter to be blown down, and large plate glass windows to shatter. East of town a barn on John Stein’s farm and another on M. J. Cane’s farm collapsed. It was the worst storm in years.
