The Greater Monticello committee pressed for a safer intersection for over a decade. Former state representative Roy Miller helped rally legislators and highway commission members to inspect the area last fall, advancing the safety effort.

Ed Gardiner of Colorado has been named district forrester for the Anamosa area, replacing Larry Clark who resigned for a post with ALCS. The district covers Jones Linn Jackson Johnson Cedar and Clinton counties with headquarters in the Anamosa post office basement. Gardiner, Iowa State University graduate, has worked as an Extension forrester in Iowa, Idaho, Montana, and Colorado since 195? He was raised in Dallas and Guthrie counties, is married with three children, and his family will move to Anamosa after the current school year.
Hearing in Jones county district court reconvened on the Monticello annexation after a blizzard delay. Voted 481 to 358 in 1969 to add about 1300 acres, with objections filed by nearby residents. No jury as it is an equity case. judge will decide validity.
John Hetzler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harland Hetzler of Monticello, is highlighted in Earl Wilson’s nationally syndicated Broadway column “Blue Monday” after Sheri Greenawald’s prior feature. The Des Moines Register reprinted the item from Monday, Jan. 25.
Earl New York reports 22 year old John Hetzler son of Harland Hetzler of Monticello Pa is seen nightly by Jamey Carson. A University of Northern Iowa graduate Hetzler works as an NBC page and recalls Bill Cosby once locked in his dressing room requiring aid. He attends a New School opera workshop and aims for Broadway musicals.
Five vocalists from Monticello Community High School joined the Dorian Vocal Festival at Luther College Decorah Sunday and Monday. The group included Georgeanne Cassidy Laurel McLaughlin Becky Wild Randy Vogel and Bob Durst. Jan Reade accompanied at the piano as a grand concert showcased by about 650 singers and soloists plus the Luther Nordic Choir.
