Description Of North Africa Farming By A Pepper Juilfs Letter
A letter from Pfe. Lester Juilfs, stationed in North Africa and written to Mrs. Herman Helgens near Monticello, details local farming landscapes and customs. He notes attire, odd implements, oxen plowing with a horn tied as a guide, various old-fashioned vehicles, scarce crops, and rugged walls. He comments on lean cattle, a black-top road, windmills, and a lemon grove impression, with weather described as sunny but cold at night. He mentions ration cards, costs at the camp store, and a Red Cross cafe offering coffee and cake for a dime.
