Mrs. Florence Wherry hosted a bridge party with 1 30 dessert lunch. Winners were Louise Gurrelt Fannie Hicks and Jennie Jordan. Onslow boys basketball took second in the Jones County tournament at Oxford Junction with Leland Hodoval scoring 20 in the loss to Olin Lions. Cattle at Chicago market averaged 1345 pounds bringing $27 per hundred.

Official 1960 Iowa highway maps announced ready

Iowa State Highway Commission reports 1960 state road map arrived in Ames and ready for distribution. The redesigned cover features an Interstate photo and shows recent improvements including relocations and new four lane sections with several I routes green for open traffic. Some stretches open by late spring or summer, with others delayed by weather. the reverse side highlights color scenes and a mileage chart detailing highway distances between Iowa towns and cities.

Infant Marcy Ann Shedeck underwent surgery at St Luke’s Cedar Rapids after birth in Cedar Rapids. Skater Ed Freyermuth was injured and hospitalized in Cedar Rapids. Mrs Helen Lasack leaves for California visiting relatives for about two months. Community events include birthday party, Legion 40 and 8 meeting, Happy Hour club, Sanctuary Guild, and Parent-Teachers meeting rescheduled due to snow storm.

Center Junction notes January church night at the Presbyterian church on the 27th with potluck at 6 30 and a film about rural change. Residents attended a dairy banquet in Monticello on January 14. No school in Center Junction on January 15 and 18 due to bad roads. The Creamery Co op annual meeting is set for January 30 at the schoolhouse with a 1 30 p.m. dinner by the Presbyterian Ladies Guild and entertainment.

Church Men Undertake Steer Feeding Project

In Oxford Junction the English Lutheran church launches a steer feeding project with twenty black Angus steers averaging 650 pounds. Seeded to farmers on January 20, the farmers provide feed and care, profits to the church. Committee members are Harold Rehmke Ronald Hansen Fred Hronik and Pete Moeller.

Castle Grove elects Peniel church officers for 1950

At the Peniel Presbyterian annual meeting on January 22 Castle Grove elected new church and Sun day school officers. Rev Gideon Krein presided and a potluck followed services. Retiring officers were named and current officers announced as re elected or continuing. Several congregants visited relatives in Trenton New Jersey for a funeral and others were hosted at local homes.
