Butter Shortage Looms Amid National Pressure on Prices
Monticello residents face limited butter produced locally as the Farmers Mutual Creamery yields about 800 pounds daily, far below earlier output. Nationally, a 20 million pound cut in civilian butter allotments signals shortages, while officials consider price increases and easing rationing to boost supply.

Vitamin C In Oranges and Winter Diet
The article explains the importance of daily vitamin C during winter, noting citrus fruits and tomato juice as key sources. It outlines vitamin C’s role in preventing scurvy, avoiding hemorrhages, and supporting teeth, bones, gums, and overall health, with oranges and grapefruits cited as daily options.
Protect Those Vitamins With Plastic Film Covers
Busy days demand quick meals and still protect nutrients. Use tight fitting covers of clear plastic film to keep vegetables fresh from washing through serving. Try a Meat and Vegetables Casserole recipe with diced meat, carrots, rice, tomatoes, and parsley to yield six servings.
Vitamin C in Fresh Juices and Storage Tips
Tomato juice offers high vitamin C while oranges provide it in abundance. Unstrained orange juice saves more vitamins and pulp contains vitamin C. pineapple juice needs about three times the volume for equal C. For tomato to orange C, use twice as much tomato juice. Store juice overnight in fridge but avoid multi day storage. canned juice is rich in C due to lack of air. home canned tomato juice has less vitamin C but lower cost.
