Monticello high school basketball fell to Anamosa in both games last Friday on the home court. Freshman sophomores lost 27 13 after a close start, while the varsity tumbled 86 30 as Anamosa built leads early and held on. Rickels Fitzsimons and McNamara stood out for their teams amid a sluggish pace and scattered free throws.

Sacred Heart teams posted five wins in a week. Ken Weber led the boys with 24 points against Hopkinton in a 56 to ? victory. The girls defeated St Martin's 32 to 22 while the Cadcade boys edged their rivals 24 to 22. The slate included a 35 to 29 girls win over Dubuque Trausch Sweethearts and a 57 to 18 boys win over Xavier of Dyersville with Andy Stoll and Virgil Haag top scorers.

Man Sentenced 40 Years in Pen for Rape
Harry D. Garn 53 of Des Moines received a 40 year term in the Fort Madison state penitentiary after pleading guilty to rape. The 13 year old victim was from Monticello and exploited by Garn, a World War I veteran formerly at the Monticello CCC camp who lodged at the girl's parents' home.

Mrs. Robert Mullen and her son Joe attended the funeral of Gus Mattke 60 in Fredericksburg following his death December 31 from a heart attack.
