Massive Toledo fire wipes out blocks and injures workers
A blaze in Toledo at 6 80 oclock Wednesday night destroyed the Western Union and Postal services and gutted the riverfront elevator of I M Quales. Explosions and fierce winds drove flames across Water and Summit streets, endangering the chamber of commerce and Wonder land theater. Two lives were lost or gravely injured, with hundreds of offices and businesses damaged or destroyed and 200 offices burned out. Firemen and militia restrained the blaze as Cleveland Detroit and Adrian supplied aid. The fire, Toledo’s largest in two decades, was under control by nine oclock.

A fire in the third story of T. H. Hinchman & Son wholesale drug house in Detroit started around 6 30 p m Wednesday. The blaze endangered neighboring buildings Standart Bros wholesale hardware W 4H Edgar Co and Louis Blitz Co suffered heavy to small losses. Total losses expected around 250 000 with Hinchman building and stock near 165 000 and Standart stock and building about 115 000. Insurance covered most of Standart’s loss.
