Farm Prosperity Tied to AAA Backing Says Iowa Expert
R K Bliss director of the extension service at Iowa State College argues that farm buying power under the AAA program is crucial. Data show farm income fell about 45 points since 1929 while industrial output declined similarly, meaning factories rely on agricultural demand. He notes the prewar farm purchasing power has been cut by about 2 billion dollars yearly for 12 years, limiting farmers to bare necessities and hurting urban employment. AAA aims to restore parity prices so farmers can spend on goods and revive normal business channels.
