Police Chief Howard R. Allgood of Mahaska county aided by officers pursued John Backstrom after a street fight. Backstrom allegedly bit Officer Versteeg on the hand and attempted to flee before Allgood used a lariat to lasso and immobilize him, delivering him to the police station restrained.
A Ruthven family in Palo Alto county built a windmill to run a home generator. They hoped wind power would supply the home's electricity, but the winter winds were insufficient when power was most needed, ending their experiment.

In Waterloo a bridge dispute ends with Frank Bond jailed 60 days after he allegedly struck a woman following a game where she trumped his ace.
Robert Sherlock of Marengo Iowa county searched for his missing dog after thirty days. A hunter reported seeing a possibly dead animal in a groundhog hole. Sherlock widened the hole and freed the dog, which was exhausted and nearly starved but survived after ten days of care.
Oliver Hill of Cambridge Story county retired in January after 45 years as superintendent of the Lutheran church Sunday school. Fellow members say this may be the longest record for any superintendent in the state.
William Clayworth, 70, of Oscaloosa in Mahaska County, gathers abundant hickory sprouts from local farms to fashion walking canes. He trims them to size, has made several hundred canes, and gifts them to friends while strolling through Oskaloosa with armloads to share.
Rev L G Ligutts of Granger Polk county filed a petition with federal authorities seeking 1600 farms of three to five acres for miners and their families. He argues the plots would provide subsistence during mining downturns when work is scarce, noting miners average 80 to 150 workdays yearly and are mainly Slavs and Italians with agricultural training. The farms would be sold to the miners.

Frank Shreer of Carroll, Carroll County, chased and killed two red foxes using only his hands and a trap he displaced. He captured one fox by the hind foot, damaged his own hand, and strangled both animals after restraining them. Pelts measured 46 and 47 inches.
The District Court of Jones County Iowa announces a hearing for final proof and probate of the will of William J Aitchison deceased.
