Judy Heister age five of Onslow was taken to City hospital in Maquoketa after her clothing caught on a hot stove. She suffered third degree burns extending from the knees to the chest and is reported healing satisfactorily.
Leave beets carrots rutabagas and turnips in the ground until heavy frost. Remove before the ground freezes hard. They store better after low temperatures cause cells to fill with starch and sugar and water content declines.
Wyoming notices a Pleasant Ridge gathering honoring families leaving the community including the Eichhorn Rockwell and Norton families. Farewell for Norton moves planned to Maquoketa Elwood area. Local anniversaries and visits accompany farm moves and social events across Wyoming.
Farmers Mutual Insurance directors and adjusters met in Monticello on Wednesday with Thomas Sawyers of the Farmers Mutual Reinsurance Association presenting. Attendees from away included C B Shaffer Wyming H Leech Center Junction Robert Livingstone Anamosa and W B Clark Scotch Grove.

A Chariton man who escaped from a Monticello hospital boarded for home but was captured after Sheriff Paul Laing identified him via radio. Monroe County authorities returned him to the hospital’s jurisdiction amid the manhunt. Notice to bidders invites sealed bids in Monticello for athletic field construction and street grading with strict bidding rules and bid security.
The successful bidder must furnish a performance bond equal to 100 percent of the contract. Work starts by April 1, 1947 and must finish within the contractor’s proposed time.
