Maquoketa Valley Citizens Group Deliberates on School Site
The Citizens Committee for Bet ter Education in Maquoketa Valley district held its first official meeting at Delhi High School with about 43 members. They agreed on a new open end high school, enrollment around 325 to 340 by 1966, and a cost under 500000 not including site and grading, but disagreed on location. A bus trip to inspect other schools was planned for today with a second trip set for Saturday, and a sub committee will study areas for a Feb 6 report.

A Hopkinton residence owned by George Ludgen suffered major damage last Wednesday when fire destroyed the roof and caused extensive interior water damage. Neighbors reported smoke as firefighters cut a hole in the roof and breached an upstairs window to reach the blaze. the loss is insured.

Three Drivers Stopped for OMVI in Jones County
Three Jones county men faced OMVI charges after a high speed chase Saturday night. Albert Lawrence Merrill of Monticello received a continuance and $350 bond after waiving preliminary hearing and being bound over to the grand jury. Alfred Joseph Vozenilek of Olin, facing a third OMVI offense, also waived preliminary exam and was bound over with $1,000 bond. Donald Dwayne Fairley of Olin had proceedings continued to Feb 3 and was jailed in lieu of a $350 bond after being charged with OMVI and night speeding following a 90 mile per hour pursuit from Wyoming to Monmouth.

After thirty seven years of combined service Goodyear and Kreeb were saluted at a Monticello Fire Department dinner. Ray Marolf accepted their certificates and gifts as new chief. 20 Mile Cha Ends in 150 Fine for Speeder
John Ross aged 17 of Monticello faced Justice J W Millans after a high speed chase that started in Hopkinton and ended with a roadblock on highway 20 east of Manchester. He was fined 100 and costs for speeding and 50 plus costs for reckless driving with a 90 day license suspension recommended.

Cascade Youths Injured In Icy Pickup Rollover
A 15 year old driver David Strang and his 13 year old sister Marjean from Cascade suffered facial lacerations when their pickup skidded on ice on highway 151, 3 1/2 miles southwest of Cascade. They were treated at John McDonald hospital, Monticello, then released. The vehicle, owned by their father Clarence Strang, was extensively damaged.
