Monticello Library Reports 1955 Circulation Rise
The Monticello public library circulated 18 193 books in 1955 up from 17 000 plus the year before. A total of 569 new volumes were added with 64 gifts and five in memory. New titles include Americana Encyclopedia and works by Marshall Wouk and Peale. The Jungle Travel club and Camp Fire girls ran programs, and new lights and folding chairs were installed. Library hours and fees for out of town patrons are noted.

Delaware county farmers joined a swine testing program run by the Delaware County Swine Producers Association. At a Manchester hog marketing clinic Ralph Durham of Iowa State discussed meat type hog breeding and litter records. The program adds carnotching, pig weighing at weaning and at 150 to 175 days, back fat measurements, and rate of gain data to aid breeding stock selection.

Onslow Murphys Leave For Florida
Onslow Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Murphy left January 25 for Pensacola Florida to visit Mr. and Mrs. LaVerne Murphy. Murphy will have twenty years in the navy in August. Also traveling were L B McKinstry Jerry Bernal and wives heading to Texas and California. Mrs. Raymond Taylor hosted the Happy Homemakers club with fourteen members present. Elsie Callahan spent time in Onslow while a furnace was installed in Wyoming. A new outdoor bulletin board was given to the church by the Youth Fellowship. James R Kennedy was honored for long service, elected elder after years as trustee.

At Osceola the old railroad water tower near the station is being razed. Its age is uncertain but it was built shortly after the turn of the century. Diesel locomotives rendered the structure obsolete.
