Jones County Farm Bureau to plan the annual county wide home project achievement day at a courthouse meeting led by Mrs. Sam Ellison county chairman. County officers including township chairman and publicity chairman invited. A tentative program and exact time will be set at the gathering.
The Jones County Holstein Breeders Association holds its annual meeting in the courthouse community room. Secretary William Vincent says most local breeders will attend to elect officers and plan the state picnic at Fines Park in early June. Dr. N D Snell leads a talk on hogs control work as guest speaker.

Mrs. C. G. Thomas of Monticello spoke about a Europe trip during the Des Moines meeting of the Castle Grove township Farm Bureau. In the business session Fred Cramer was elected township secretary for the coming year.
Howard Jones of Hale township informs the Farm Bureau office he accepted a tester position for the Story county contesting association with headquarters in Nevada. A former 4 H club member, he is one of the youngest contestants employed in the state and will begin on February 10.
Jones county hog raisers favor dry feeding brood sows over slopping when water is ample. Slop helps gilts before farrowing, but dry feeding matches results with good water. For sows, mineral mix of limestone bonemeal salt and iodine supports bone growth and prevents mineral withdrawal. self fed at about 2 cents per pound.
The Jones county Rural Youth association will meet at the Anamosa courthouse on Tuesday February 7. The program includes electing delegates to the 1939 rural young people's assembly in Ames February 17 and 18. Fifteen official delegates will represent the group.
The Jones county group and others will attend the state meeting. The program includes the initiation of 18 new members into the organization. Young people interested in the rural young people's program are invited to attend.
Officers and leaders of the Wyoming 4 H boys club met at the home of Irvin and Melvin Sievers to write the 1939 program. Attending the meeting were Robert Fishwild Herman Brunscheen Jr Richard Rohwedder and John Eichhorn. Irvin Sievers and Reggie Morse club leaders and county club agent Ray Sorensen also assisted in the writing.
Schedule of 4 H boys clubs for February 5 to 11 lists events on February 6 at Oxford Boys club hosted by Donald Starr, February 8 at Olin Boys club at Olin schoolhouse, and February 9 at Castle Grove Boys club at school No 2.
Jones county 4 H baby beef club enrolls 70 members feeding 167 calves amid county wide participation. Record growth since 1937 1938 with eight new Eastern Iowa Cattle Feeders members feeding 35 calves in group contests and 132 as individual projects. Breeds represented include Hereford Angus and Shorthorn with Herefords dominating seven group entries.
Iowa State college extension dairyman A. W. Rudnick advises keeping lids off cleaned cream cans until they cool to prevent moisture and bacterial growth that cause a smothered odor. He also suggests sending a can to the dairy immediately before use to remove post wash bacteria and allowing empty cans to dry in the sun.
In a weekly note Frank Priebe discusses egg production trends. He notes 25 percent of pullets die within a year despite higher feed and breeding. He argues machines fail without proper maintenance, applying the concept to hens as egg machines.
A poultryman with 65 birds in laying contests shows high egg winnings while losing only one. He fed a free choice concentrate with whole corn and oats, arguing this balanced approach preserves vitality and supports heavier, continuous production.
The Coon Rapids Enterprise urges Gov. Wilson to include names and salaries of all state employees in the Official Register. The idea dates back years and would inform the public. Mr. and Mrs. E H Cox visited Center Junction with a talk on the locker system at the annual creamery meeting.
Local notices recount visits and gatherings in Sand Spring Iowa including Behrends DeShaw Batchelder and Murray families. A special Farm Bureau meeting on January 26 featured a lesson on clothing of the pre school child with twelve attendees and a luncheon.
Mrs Ina Warren district deputy president and Paul Jones district deputy master led the Wyoming staff in installing Monticello lodge No 117 and Loyal Rebekah lodge No 306 officers on Thursday. Grandmaster Rev Garden Dale Cox attended first time in 25 years at district 53 installation and spoke on Fellowship. Cox honored at Warren home. Onslow beat Cascade 21 29 and Wyoming 26 14 as second team also fell. Seventh remains unnamed.
A group of Maquoketa visitors joined Mr. and Mrs. H W Koon for an afternoon and evening gathering. Guests included Mr and Mrs Will Garretson and Mrs Lilly Henry among others. A picnic supper was served and prizes were awarded at the Friday bridge club. Scott McDonald recovering from a truck accident spent the week with his sister Mrs Ed Kleineck.
