The bill limits work time and allows up to three automobiles for supervisor use. A senate measure adds residency requirements for district assigned supervisors and treats relocation as resignation.
Representative Brady of Council Bluffs introduces a measure to relieve towns of liability for damages from defective sidewalks streets and alleys unless written notice was filed with the city clerk. If an accident occurs after notice the town may have the patient examined by the city physician if damages are sought.
County officers representatives met with the legislative economy committee last week and agreed to the proposed salary slash though they called it drastic. The county recorders face a legislative hearing on Thursday February 2. A bill would let town councils fix service charge fees for local telephone companies and another bill would levy a $100 license in each county on portable feed grinders and similar trucks.
George Washington chapter of the DeMolay initiated five candidates into the DeMolay degree at a special meeting last Monday night. Among those were three from Greeley and two from Monticello, with an excellent crowd witnessing the ceremony including three Greeley men involved in boys' work. Harry Gunn, a Walker-area farmer, reported to Cedar Rapids police that two bandits abducted him Monday near the Milwaukee depot in Marion. They dragged him into the country, robbed him of 95 dollars, left him in a ditch by highway 11, and took only the cash while the check survived.
