A two car collision occurred Thursday around 1 p m at Sycamore and E Second in Monticello. David John Hosch driving east on E Second slid into Jos Janssen Sr who was south on Sycamore. both vehicles sustained bumper and fender damage. Police cited ice as the major cause and filed no charges.

The Jows High School Speech association hosted the contest at Monticello High School on January 27 with participants from Monticello Olin Maquoketa Anamosa Morley Oxford Junction Martelle and Wyoming. Monticello entrants earned ratings in humorous declamation radio speaking original oratory interpretive reading poetry dramatic declamation prose and a two rating for the one act play.

Midland Community School District hearing set tonight
A hearing on forming the Midland Community School District in Jones county is scheduled at 7 30 p m in the district courtroom of the Jones county courthouse in Anamosa. Objections must be filed by noon today with Paul H Jarman county superintendent. The district would include Wyoming Onslow Center Junction and nine rural districts with over 300 pupils and would place high school facilities in Wyoming junior high in Onslow and Center Junction elementary. Three of five directors would be elected from districts and two at large.

About 450 attended the annual Jones County Beef Producers Banquet at Olin high school. Roast beef led the menu served by Olin Lutheran church women. Beef supplies came from Union Trust and Savings Bank of Olin. Entertainment included Ruth Metts from Washington and region performers, with Bob and Bobbie Thomas of Strawberry Point. Main speaker John Rhodes of LeGrand mixed humor with practical thoughts. Jones County Beef Producers Board members listed as sponsors.

Maquoketa Valley High School Bond Vote Set Feb 26
Maquoketa Valley voters will cast a second ballot Friday February 26 on a 700000 bond to build a central high school east of Delhi for the districts of Hopkinton Earlville Delhi Buck Creek and Oneida Delaware. In a first vote 1739 ballots were tallied with 962 yes 777 no and a 55 percent favor but short of the required 60 percent. If approved the site would serve the mentioned districts in eastern Delaware County.

Seek Change In Present Plans for Morley Road
A January 26 meeting of 45 Anamosa business leaders and the Jones county board of supervisors sought to reinstate three miles of black topped road from the Cedar county line through Morley to the White school into the 1960 farm-to-market program.
