In American towns small business faces uncertainty from material shortages and tighter controls. Banks shoulder most liabilities and loaning power sustains many proprietors. Local bankers can grant a new lease on life, keeping independent shops open and preserving free enterprise for the town.
Allen Kline vice-president of the Town Farm Bureau federation told Lisbon adult night school there will be a bad mood after the war and urged farmers to get out of debt and prepare for possible income loss. He said farmers must unite to produce and control inflation and warned more help, including delaying youths or releasing men over 38, is needed to keep agriculture moving.
