Children hear from Monticello teachers about Christmas break plans including travel to Waterloo Illinois Grinnell Fort Dodge Mechanicsville Columbus Junction Lime Springs and Spencer Some plan rest at home while others visit family or continue study and music.

The F H A girls held a Christmas pot luck supper at the home making rooms Tuesday night. Menu included meat loaf baked beans potato salad lettuce sandwiches milk ice cream and cookies. Tables were decorated red and green for the season. Discussion on boy girl relationships led by Phyllis Cox Irma Bohlken Martha Hayes and Jane DeShaw. A gift exchange followed until Santa fills stockings Christmas Eve.
Karl Behrends is highlighted as a six foot two inch student with blue eyes who is now a full member of the M Club after enduring initiation. He serves as president of the junior class and vice president of the band, plays bass drum in marching band and French horn in concert band, participates in multiple ensembles, sings in glee club and mixed chorus, and recently scored baskets for Monti on the first team.
On December 12 the first grade visited Mrs Henry Eden's farm. They rode in School Bus No 3 driven by Mr Dick Lang. Kids gathered eggs, watched pigs and a Jersey cow herd with two calves under a week old, saw horses and a distant pony, sang carols on the way back, and wrote a thank you note to Mrs Eden.
