Iowa Farmers Urged to Use More Fertilizer in 1944

Iowa State College extension agronomists say farmers can profitably apply six times as much fertilizer in 1944 as in 1943 based on five years of field tests. Last year Town farmers used 67 500 tons, the highest total ever, with steady growth since 1937. Officials urge early applications, note War Food Administration plans to raise nitrogen by three percent and panics for more superphosphate, while potash will rise but depend on lend lease. Farmers may apply regardless of past use, with details on crop, acreage, fertilizer grade, rate, and total required shown on the application.
