John Roach, a Cascade saloonkeeper, was pursued by the Jones County deputy sheriff last Saturday. Roach barred doors and hid inside a building but the deputy forced entry by battering the outer door with cordwood and removing an inner door hinge. Roach previously evaded capture by sheltering under a rain barrel for two hours.
The district court opened with Judge J H Preston presiding on the fifth. The grand jury's key indictments targeted Cascade saloon keepers and the Osborn brothers of Anamosa for nuisance offenses. a hardware store burglary case at Center Junction is also noted.
