Extension Council elections set for four townships
Four of eight township races for the Jones county Extension Council are scheduled with dates in December. Wyoming votes at 7 39 p.m. at the Wyoming town hall, Rome at 8 p.m. December 6 in Olin fire station, Washington at 8 p.m. December 9 at Temple Hill school, and Oxford at 6 30 p.m. December 15 in the Oxford Jet school. Terms for incumbents expire and new terms run two years from January 1, 1966. Holdovers are listed by township.

County records show peak five year traffic fatalities
The 1965 toll in Jones County reached ten with the city of Monticello logging its first fatality. Leonard Mapel 26 died when his car left South Sycamore Street striking dirt after crossing a sidewalk near the new Monticello fire station site. Mapel's body was taken to Goettsch Funeral Home with funeral plans not yet released. This year marks the second Monticello traffic death in 15 months and comes amid warnings that 1965 may be the worst accident year since 1941 with several fatalities across the county.

Three Injured in Highway 64 Two-Vehicle Crash
Three people were injured in a Tuesday crash near Antioch Church on Highway 64 when a 1949 Chevrolet panel truck pulled in front of a 1965 Ford. Mrs Dillon Story 53 of rural Wyoming and Mrs James Postel , Express reporter for Olin, were treated at Mercy Anamosa and Cedar Rapids hospitals. John Ralph Ralston 30 of Cedar Rapids was treated in Anamosa then Cedar Rapids. A separate collision at the Highway 64 151 intersection involved Louis Edward Mauer 34 and Mrs Edward Gill 21 with injuries and citations issued. Four injured in Castle Grove Township crash near Monticello including Mrs Herman Roth and Joyce Cashman.
