FFA Group Returns From Black Hills Tour
Fifteen members of the Future Farmers of America returned last Wednesday from a 2100 mile eight day trip through the Black Hills and Bad Lands. Raymond Adams led as instructor with the Earlville school bus piloted by Herb and Ed Cox. Four Drown After Car Plunges Into Maquoketa River Near Delhi
A Monday early morning crash near the Hartwick bridge killed Kenneth Lange 15, Helen Lange 14, and Audrey Behrends 16 as their Ford sedan plunged 388 feet off a steep embankment into 15 feet of water. Robert Dirks 18 escaped, saying he didn’t know there was a bridge. The victims attended a Cedar Rapids movie prior to the trip.

Mrs. Gilbert P. Rockstad Dies After Illness at 66
Mrs. Gilbert P. Rockstad, 66, of Muscatine, died at 10 20 p m Saturday August 17 after a five month illness. Funeral services were held at 10 30 a m yesterday with Dr R M Schipman officiating. Interment followed at Elm Lawn Memorial Park Princeton Illinois. She was born February 24 1880 in Deerfield Wisconsin and married Gilbert P. Rockstad January 8 1900 in Windsor Wisconsin. She leaves husband one son Paul L Rockstad Princeton Illinois one daughter Myrtle Matthewson Nashville Tennessee a sister Mrs H L Raymond Madison Wisconsin and three grandchildren Judith Ann Matthewson Mary Ann Rockstad Blaine L Rockstad.

Cedar Rapids veteran service unit will again police the Jones County Fair grounds. The uniformed group has managed traffic and crowd control for years aiding an orderly program. District Meeting at Waterloo Hears Lutheran Education Plans
St. John's Lutheran representatives Balster and Young attended the district convention in Waterloo August 12 to 16. Delegates and pastors from 92 congregations met 180 attendees. Topics included Christian Education Missions and a chair of religion at the Iowa City state university. Monticello's St. John's was chosen to send a lay delegate to the Missouri Lutheran Synod centennial in Chicago next summer to represent 14 congregations.

New residents Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Rogers returned to Monticello after 15 years in Muscatine.
