Grain beetle threat prompts quick bin cleanup
Iowa farmers told by entomologist Dr. C J Drake to clean out grain bins now as threshing begins. Remove old grain from corners and inspect for weevil infestation before storing new grain. If infested, fumigate with carbon disulfide at one pound per 100 bushels, placing chemical on top if grain is shallow and fumigating for about 24 hours in a tightly closed bin.
