The Dubuque Herald cites Bryan as enthusiastic yet lacking as a vote getter. Rourke Cochran prepared to answer Bryan’s speech for the popocratic nomination. Heat and wind devastate crops, hospitals fill, and Kansas corn prospects fall while town farmers endure hardship.
Charlie Walsh endorses a fusion deal in Iowa as delegates gather at the state convention. The crowd cheers a populist ticket of state officers with Bryan and Sewall electors while Republicans claim a solid margin from last year. The Cagenda Courier notes a blank date for Saturday August in 1896 editions. The editor and general manager were drunk, affecting publication. It claims only two actors rivaling the line are the Prince of Wales and Bobby Byrne, with others unable to match a 2:05 gait.
The Nickel Plate Road will sell round trip tickets from Chicago to Cleveland for the Biennial Encampment of the Knights of Phythias Uniform Bank in Cleveland from August 23 to 16.
