Thelma Pillard of New York kissed William Borman at Cedar Rapids airport after winning the TV Guide sweepstakes grand prize of 50000 dollars. Borman, for Shopper's Voice, notes it was the contest’s largest prize. Pillard renewed her TV Guide in May and answered seven questions correctly to double the initial 25000 prize. Robbery and larceny cases lead to suspended sentences
Martin Joseph Ahrendsen received two three year suspended sentences in a Jones county district court on August fifth for burglary and larceny in the night time with concurrent terms. The judge placed him on probation after suspensions. The Lavern Bartels garage robbery near Monticello on January thirtieth was the basis. Additional trials were scheduled for September on a speeding appeal by Mark Bone and a separate assault appeal by Rex Allen Curley.
