Former Lt Gov and Mrs John K Valentine of Centerville attended a reception at the Shover home with about 500 guests. Gov Wilson announced a tax levy reduction for Iowa taxpayers next year. 4 H club activity rose by 25 percent with a new 5000 dollar pavilion for exhibitions.
A long list of callers and guests visits across towns including Kalamazoo Michigan, Hiawatha, Manchester, Monticello, Delhi and West Union. The record notes birthdays, reunions, hospital homecomings, vacations in Washington state and a Camp C.8 Dad n Sad Day with Pack 44 Delhi Cub Scouts and many families from nearby communities.
Former resident Evelyn Bohlken and her son Donald visited in Sand Springs. Hastings guests included Dean Morton and Ray Chaplin plus Mrs Morton once Helen Egger. Sunday dinner at J C Price home hosted George Ellison Jr and family and Roger McDonald family from Monticello. Mrs Turnis attended Mrs Rickels funeral at Monticello.
Funeral services for Mrs. Roger Pratt held in Monticello on Saturday afternoon. A farewell luncheon for Mrs. Evelyn Moulds was hosted at the Art Weber home in Castle Grove on Tuesday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. John Batchelder joined Sunday dinner with the Earl Batchelder family in Strawberry Point. Sunday visitors at the George Siebold home included Mr. and Mrs. Edw Harms and Mrs. Alice Paulus. Des Moines visitors Kenneth Taggert and wife stayed with Charley Martin over the weekend in Hopkinton. Friday callers were Mr. and Mrs. John Ratcliff of Hopkinton and Clarence Martin with Eva Bevin of Cascade. Pamela and Alecia Heeren stayed overnight with Rev. and Mrs. David Guthrie in Hopkinton on Sunday.
The Hale Wapsie Wanderers 4-H club met at Mary Winchip's home on May 22. Five members along with two leaders one parent and a visitor attended. Garden tour dates were set and a judge chosen. The June cookout will be at the Presbyterian church camp area with Sharon Tapper as guest speaker.
Seven Express area students join 162 Iowa and Minnesota youths at the State College of Iowa Summer College Institute August 8 to 15. The program aims to develop music art and literature talents offering daily band orchestra and chorus instruction with painting and allied arts. A student concert closes the week on August 15 at 2 p.m. in SCI Music Auditorium under Dr Myron Russell.
Mrs Marie Bacon returned home from Humboldt where she visited the Marvin Bacon home during hospitalization. Ken neth Bacon and others met her in Waterloo. The Donna Roach Glyn Turner wedding and Cedar Rapids reception drew families including Blanchard Peters and Flannagan. The Delay family visited Newell Va and Baltimore Md with Bob Klaus noted as son of Kenneth and Iris Blanchard Klaus.
