Monticello's city council weighs a proposal from Iowa Electric Light and Power to triple business district illumination with 400 watt mercury vapor bulbs, add 12 new lights, and install new fixtures at poles. An alternate plan to simply replace bulbs would double light at lower cost.

Boy Drowns Near Cascade at Whitewater Camp
A 10 year old Dubuque boy Paul Peter Simon drowned in the Whitewater camp creek near Cascade. He fell from a rock into 15 foot deep water as his mother tried to save him. Fire and rescue crews worked an hour and a half but he was pronounced dead by coroner Eugene Siegert. He is survived by his parents and four siblings.
