Two Men Arrested For Drunken Driving In Iowa County
Two men were arrested on drunken driving charges in Jones county. Adolph Barta of Cedar Rapids was taken into custody on June 13 at 3 30 am after parking his car and staggering across the street. Louis Hannan from near Morley was arrested July 29 at 6 pm after parking his car on Huber street in Anamosa and being found in an intoxicated condition.

The Anamosa centennial opened last Monday with a drum and bugle corps parade. Helen Porter, daughter of Mr and Mrs James Porter, was crowned queen by Warren Rees and received a city key and a traveling case from the Chamber of Commerce. Hogs Lead Market as 86 Head Drove Tops Trade
William Pruess, a county farmer and stockman from Olin, marketed 86 hogs at the Chicago market this week, outselling all others of their weight. The hogs averaged 266 pounds and sold at 9.50 dollars per hundredweight. Cattle prices rose for the fifth straight month to a yearly peak of 13 dollars per cwt, while red steers averaged 10.50 dollars, a dollar above June. Hog prices also reached a yearly high at 10.25 dollars per cwt.

Death of Former Monticello Resident Dave Potter

Local Boy Goes Canoeing on Minnesota Trip

Anamosa Man Crash Victim Dies in Cedar Rapids Hospital
Ike Helphand age 58 of Anamosa died at 1 a.m. Saturday in a Cedar Rapids hospital from a skull fracture suffered when a car driven by C. W. Blood of Anamosa crashed into a concrete culvert near Marion. Blood, with a pelvic fracture, is hospitalized at St Luke's. The two men were returning from Marion. A second collision involving Charles Mills of Cedar Rapids injured four others, including Russell Carne who was thrown through a windshield. Helphand's widowhood and surviving children are noted. no inquest was held due to Blood’s condition.
