Wood to Govern Philippines If Appointed
Unofficial reports from Washington say Major General Leonard Wood will become Governor General of the Philippine Islands for at least a year and will not return to the United States. He may take a leave from the University of Pennsylvania as provost, with university leaders and Secretary Weeks involved. The move signals a stance against Philippine independence and hinges on Wood's ability to manage military, economic, and international challenges, including relations with Japan and the forthcoming disarmament conference. Caruso dies in Italy after a long career, leaving a lasting musical legacy and survivors Dorothy Benjamin Caruso, Gloria, and a son. General Dawes may reform the Government Printing Office to save paper and costs.
