Mount Vernon Indiana Aug 3 188? The venerable Judge John Pitcher died at his home at age nearly 98. Born August 22 1794 in Watertown Connecticut he studied law from age seven and was admitted in 1816. He practiced across Indiana and served as sheriff and state senator before becoming judge of a circuit covering Posey Gibson Vanderburgh and Warwick counties. An early friend of Abraham Lincoln he loaned Lincoln his first law books. He married twice and had thirteen children two survive him Gen Thomas G Pitcher of Washington DC and Mrs Skate Whiteworth who cared for him thirteen years in invalid life.
