Soldiers for China and Iowa Guard readiness
The town is asked how many soldiers it can furnish if a war with China required a large U S army. Four regiments of the Iowa factional guard could be recruited to about 1800 new men though current strength is about 2700. Maj A Olmsted, veteran inspector, says many are Spanish War veterans but most are new recruits with higher physical standards and older equipment. He believes the government could take the regiments as they are apart from needing new men.
