A mystery guest will join the Monticello water show on August 8 at the Monticello pool. The Gyro-Jets will headline a half hour of trampoline diving and comedy, with a 7:30 concert by the Monticello summer band and an 8 p.m. start. A relay race against Cedar Rapids Country Club is planned, plus lifesaving and synchronized swimming demonstrations.

Harvest Home draws record crowds in Hopkinton celebrations
Crowds packed Hopkinton for Harvest Home events across Tuesday to Wednesday with rides, concessions, and free acts. A Tuesday concert and 700 to 1,000 attendees led to a parade on Wednesday afternoon, featuring Vern Schield speaking on Russia and Soviet farming versus Iowa methods, plus children's events and a tug of war. Wednesday night offered more band performances and a drawing for a 1,000 pound black Angus steer.

Local Sergeant Nunnery Named Outstanding Noncom at Wing
Sgt John Nunnery husband of Dorothy Kurt was chosen as the finest noncommissioned officer of Headquarters Squadron Section 7330th Flying Training Wing MAP. The award cites duty performance initiative and responsibility with a certificate three day pass future promotion consideration and engraving on the unit plaque. Nunnery enlisted in 1940 and his unit has been stationed in Germany since March 1955.

Assessor Budget Approved With Tax Increase Noted
