Fire Destroys Barn and Toolshed on Ben Otten Farm
A large barn and tool shed on the Ben Otten farm near Scotch Grove burned Thursday night about 9 30. The fire caused the loss of two thousand bales of last year’s hay and a thousand of this year’s cuttings along with grain and calves. Monticello firemen saved other buildings though the main blaze was out of hand upon arrival. The fire may have started by spontaneous haymow combustion and insurance partially covers the loss. Nearby residents joined the efforts as the blaze could be seen for miles.

The Castle Grove 4 H Fortune Finders met July 18 at Virginia Muller's home to discuss annual health examinations. Eight members answered roll call with reasons for health checks, and Virginia Muller presented a home economics demonstration on icing a cake.
