Our view denounces spectators who obstructed firefighting at a Wilcox hatchery fire on First Street. Firemen redirected a water hose toward the crowd to keep firefighters able to work. The editorial urges complete spectator cooperation to prevent loss of life and property.
Oak Drive Club tour members and guests visited Monticello factories on April 14 with stops at Hoag Duster Co and Yeoman Co. They toured energy efficient metalwork, feather processing, toolmaking, printing, and button production. lunch at Monti’s cafe followed. Harry G. Chase 77 of Center Junction and Onslow died Friday in a Lake City hospital after a brief illness. Funeral conducted Monday at the Center Junction Presbyterian Church by Rev. Hendricks. He was born December 9, 1877 in Onslow and married Daisy Maxson in 1916. Survivors include his wife, three daughters, a sister, an aunt, six grandchildren, and many relatives.
Twenty six women of Madison township gathered Tuesday at Mrs. Truman Stanton’s home for a Kitchen party. Mrs. Helen Senecut of the Anamosa R E A service demonstrated cooking with electricity and led an oven dinner under her direction. An educational film traced heat use from primitive times to modern electric stoves. Mrs. Frank Zamastel chaired a business meeting and Mrs. Evelyn Livingstone of Anamosa outlined future lesson topics and shared her Ames WOI television panel experience.
Kenneth Smith was re elected as principal of Center Junction school. Mrs Dillon Streets will serve as kin derparten and first grade teacher and Mrs Bob Duncan will teach fifth and sixth grades.
Mrs Russell Jamieson, chairwoman of the local Cancer Fund drive, reports seventy dollars raised. Assisting her were Mrs Jack Stingley, Mrs Sweed Cross, Mrs Glenn Andrews and Mrs Ray Plueger.
Mrs LeRoy Dirks welcomed members with Mrs Robert Zirkelbach as co host. Mrs Gladys McNeilly spoke on India and Harm Dirks organized a film about India. The program theme focused on ac cents on you as a citizen of the world. Mrs Les Balster led a personality quiz.
The Center Junction Cub Scout pack 69 gathered Friday April 22 at the Center Junction Presbyterian church basement for their monthly meeting. Awards were presented by Cub master Rev. Charles Hendricks to Lloyd Lorenzen and Garry Weeks for Bobcat pins and to Keith Christensen and Gene Pheger for Wolf and Bear badges with a gold arrow point. The Cubs and interested parents attended.
Event details show plans to attend the Scout Exposition at Hawkeye Downs in Cedar Rapids on April 29 and 30. Organizers invite scouts and families to explore booths, activities, and displays.
Rev Charles Hendricks and Sam Thompson attended a council meeting of the Presbyterian Cooperative Parish at Emeline Monday evening. Many Center Junction residents visited relatives and attended local events including a birthday luncheon for Mrs Sadie McDonald in Ana mossa.
Mrs. Howard Andrews hosted a Wednesday evening party for friends. Out of town guests included Mrs. Richard Smith and Mrs. Russell Wolf of Anamosa. Mrs. Louis Moran, an Iowa City business visitor, was in town Tuesday. The Gladys McNeilly home in Center Junction has been purchased and they plan to move in late June.
Thirteen students at Scotch Grove school No 3 have been named to the county dental honor roll. Teacher is Mrs Emma Eby. Students listed include Laura Lynn Eggers Karen Eggers Linda Eggers Lois Bohlken Joyce Bohlken Don Neill Judy Plueger Jean Bohl ken Joyce Willis Janice Willis Sheryl Burns Doris Burns and Ruth Reuter.
Holstein records released by the Holstein-Friesian association of America show the men’s reformatory at Anamosa and George Slater and Son of Olin completed production tests. Anamosa cow Miss Segis Johanna Luze yielded 597 pounds butterfat and 16,356 pounds milk, milked twice daily for 365 days, averaging 21 quarts daily. age at the start was 10 years 10 months.
George Slater and Son-Clover at Ormsby set a dairy record with 835 pounds butterfat and 21,897 pounds milk milking twice daily every day for 365 days. The herd averaged a daily intake of milk quarts, with the record begun at age 25 and maintained for four years nine months.
Mrs Maude Joseph Smith of Hopkinton and Mrs Elsie C Hiller of Monticello were overnight guests at Mr and Mrs John Eichhorns in Wyoming. Mrs Smith presented the program Mother Goose Rhymes in History at the Young Mothers club meeting Monday evening.
Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Hiller called Tuesday morning at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Deischer in Scotch Grove. Barbara Rogers returned home after wintering with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Rogers of Burlington. Mr. and Mrs. Rogers and Mrs. Barbara Rogers were supper guests at the home of Mrs. M. B. Leonard on Monday evening.
