The Dairy Department at Iowa State College launches a four contest series to educate dealers toward cleaner dairy products. Early scores show raw milk averaging 92.49 and pasteurized milk 90.93, both up from last year. Top exhibitors with 90 percent or higher earn merit certificates.
Iowa Wesleyan College reports three outside gifts totaling 15000 to its 500000 endowment campaign. Donors include Hugh A. Cole Carl S Williams and Gardner Cowles all Chicago residents or graduates contributing to the fund now at 195000 raised.
Joseph A. Miller representing Simpson college won first place in the state peace oratorical contest at Parsons college. Seven college orators spoke on the peace question with G. C. Springer of Highland Park college taking second and Evans McClure of Parsons college taking third. Other participants included speakers from Western Union college Le Mars Penn Oskaloosa Morningside Sioux City and Ames.
Mil waukee Burlington and D R I N W railways commit 500000 for Davenport levee project. Plans include a union passenger station new freight depot modern yards team tracks main line depression grade crossing removal and switch tracks removal from city front.
Nearly all ISU agriculture graduates return to farming. Of 150 graduates, 145 are farming or tied to farming work. Forty eight students will complete the course in June, and all will return to the farm.
Kingsley resident 73 year old Alexander Livingston and Malvern resident 68 year old Margaret McKowan were married in Kingsley by Rev. J. K. Driver of the Presbyterian church. Friends of the couple attended the ceremony.

The bulk is in Iowa farmland totaling over 6000 acres across local and nearby counties, plus a Washington home. Mrs Hepburn will receive the income from the estate which is to be divided equally between daughter and son at her death.
Five Fort Dodge gypsum firms raise wages by two cents an hour for 500 workers due to labor shortages. The increase applies to all payrolls except gypsum miners under contract as they seek to hold staff through the building season. The aim is to prevent a labor shortage during the busy construction period.

James Chasey and Ralph Myers suffered serious injuries when a cylinder gas tank used for a soda fountain exploded at Chasey’s restaurant. Chasey was blown from the room and lost a foot, while Myers was thrown to the ceiling with a broken leg. The building is owned by Myers.
A double funeral was held for John Avary 12 and Gustav Johnson 14 who drowned when an old boat they had repaired filled with water in the Floyd River. The boat sank after a brick dropped from a wagon bridge struck the bottom and acted as an anchor.
Webster City reports the death of H E Schroeder, Hamilton county’s wealthiest citizen valued near a million. The 82 year old, who had 1400 acres of land, was stricken with apoplexy at his home after an ordinary walk. He had been in rugged health prior to the fatal incident.
Michael Ryan born in Ireland in 1816 died recently in Nashua aged nearly 100. He came to America in 1847 amid the Irish famine. Nashua planned a centennial celebration in his honor, as his health held firm until last winter.
Charles City-born educator Dr. Irwin Shepard died in Winona Minnesota of heart disease at age 73. He served as secretary of the National Educational Association from 1893 to 1912 and began his career as superintendent of schools at Charles City. He later joined the Panama-Pacific Exposition bureau.
Iowa City may select a new dean for the law school with Harry S. Richards of Wisconsin among the candidates. Richards is a former law college faculty member at Iowa and currently serves as dean of Wisconsin’s college of law.
The Floyd County special election approved consolidating districts with the Charles City area school. Six districts near Floyd join the Floyd school, making it the second consolidated school in the county.
The Asbury farmers have bought the United Brethren church near Kimerson and will remodel it into a community clubhouse. The move creates a new gathering place for local agricultural neighbors and meetings.

Berlin April 22 Heinrich Lange Hamburg multimillionaire died by his own hand to avoid prosecution over grain sales for livestock. Lange had disposed of grain contrary to regulations in the incident.
In Lincoln Nebraska on Monday Patrolman Ted Oliver shot and killed Camilo Salas a Mexican after Salas had stabbed and slightly wounded Police Captain C A Moore. The shooting follows the stabbing incident and occurred during the ensuing confrontation.
