Delegates from Iowa Fifth district will meet in Cedar Rapids on May 1 at 2 p m to nominate a congress candidate. Representation is by county plus extra delegates for past gubernatorial votes. Counties listed include Benton 16, Jones 11, Linn 26, Marshall 15, Tama 15, totaling 104 delegates.
Republicans in Monticello held a Tuesday convention to choose delegates for the congressional and judicial races. The meeting endorsed Mr. Cousins for Congress and presented Judge Remley as the candidate to seek his own successor.
J. E. Blythe once credited with rescuing the state from democratic rule and chair of the Republican state central committee now faces local jealousy. His announcement to run for the congressional nomination in the Fourth district is met with the entry of Duncan Rule from the same city, apparently backed by another candidate.
