Ear care remedies advised.
A medley of old observations notes women as civilisers, a night patrol exchange with an old woman, a downed tree yielding two bushels of bees and honey, global coffee crop shortfall, Vienna as a leisure hub, a winter of public amusements, and a sea captain quip about bread made from flour and boots.
A remorseful woman in Doston, famed for refinement and Parisian dress, was caught stealing silk stockings in a dry goods shop. She burst into tears, begged forgiveness, insisting she was not a habitual kleptomaniac, though she admitted an ungovernable propensity to steal.
A distressed woman won the merchant's sympathy and obtained merchandise in exchange for a twenty dollar note. She paid with the note and departed in thanks, but the teller later faced the question of whether the note was counterfeit and if the woman’s repentance was genuine.
