Jones county District court set hearings for Friday April 7 in two criminal cases in which Robert M. Marsh and Charles Bowers appeared and requested time to plead. Four new civil filings include suits by B E Switzer for 165 dollars plus interest and costs against Donald and Mrs Harms and by Kenneth Lowe for 135 40 dollars for rent and electricity.

A volunteer group named Jones County Radio Patrol organized last summer offers emergency assistance. Composed mainly of Collin's employees, firemen, and policemen, they use mobile radio equipment in all cars. Members have aided searches for a Franch boy in Winthrop, a lost boy in Fairview, and escaped inmates from Anamosa reformatory.

Monticello to Let Bids on $14,000 Sewer Project
Monticello will let bids Monday April 24 for a $14,000 sewer project replacing a 12 inch outfall line with an 18 inch line from the sewage plant to the first Kitty Creek manhole. The council discussed additional water system improvements including a 500,000 gallon standpipe and a possible eight inch main north from the reservoir to Seventh Street.

Plans For County Roads To Be Submitted Friday
County engineer Claude Hamlin of Jones County says plans for paving two routes A and C will be sent to the State Highway Commission in Ames on Friday. Bids could be invited about May 9. The project proposes base coating both roads as the first step in a two stage program. Road A will be hard surfaced from Monticello west and northwest about ten miles to the Linn County line. Road C runs eight miles on the south portion from the Cedar County line north through Morley to Anamosa.

Methodist Minister Baldwin Dies at St Luke's Rites Saturday
Rev Sterling J Baldwin pastor at St Luke's Methodist Church since 1955 died suddenly at his home. Funeral services set for Saturday at 2 p.m. at St Luke's with district superintendent Dr C H Hempstead expected to officiate. Born August 1 1907 in Osage he served multiple Iowa towns and held an honorary doctorate from Upper Iowa University. Survived by wife Gladys and four children plus three grandchildren.
