An explosion and fire damaged Bohlken's Garage in Scotch Grove last Wednesday morning. Workmen draining gasoline from a car sparked the blast. the car was pulled from the back room and burned. The Monticello volunteer fire department responded, but the fire was under control on arrival. no damage estimate yet.
A preliminary report will be provided within a year of survey completion with a final report published at SCS cost. Costs are divided one third among county, state and SCS. Survey costs $14,000 per township or $224,000 per county with payments starting six months after field work begins and renewed every six months. New maps use a larger scale and show soil, slope and erosion with aerial photos as base. Non agricultural uses include planning, engineering, valuations and development.
Three traffic incidents were reported with one personal injury. A 25 year old man and a 26 year old were involved in a collision on S Main with Griffith charged for failure to yield. A passenger sustained head injuries and was hospitalized. Damages totaled 1500 across two vehicles. A second crash on Highway 38 North involved a 32 year old Coggan resident and a 16 year old Monticello youth. Pederson charged for failure to yield and damages were modest. A third hit and run damaged a parked car on Timberline Road. no injuries reported and damage around 300.
A long time Monticello physician Dr Colin G. Thomas 85 and his wife Eloise 81 died within hours of each other on Thursday March 26 at John McDonald hospital. A double funeral was held Saturday at First Congregational church with burial in Oakwood cemetery.
A comedy titled Have You Had Your Operation pokes fun at rivaling neighbors and procedures. The cast includes Pam Norlin Bev Hoag Dinah Carla Zumbach Miss Allen Sue Manternach Mrs Gordon Lois Oswald Miss Harris Kim Smith and Mrs Murphy. The production will be staged at the MHS dinner theatre.
